A house could never be defined as a home without the presence of the appliances it needs to be considered as such, such as refrigerators and washing machines. However, despite taking these appliances for granted, the presence of appliances are indispensable to a modern lifestyle equipped with the amenities of such.
For instance, refrigerators not only keep our food safe to eat, but also allow us to save money by getting the most out of our food. That being said, refrigerators, and by definition all other kinds of household appliances, are not created equally: some have more features to save electricity, while others are equipped with sensors and features that will be changing the faces of our kitchen and homes in the future. So what does ecological sustainability really mean? Energy consumption is of paramount importance, but not the only criterion. Secondary considerations include choosing a ventilated or a frost-free refirgerator. 2016, on the whole, was an important year for the future of home appliances. During the IFA Fair held in Berlin last September, some of the latest in technology were shown. Amongst all the technological innovations, new devices, and latest in home technology, a common thread emerged: that of the increasing importance of the internet of things (IoT) and the ability of our household appliances to be connected to our home Wi-Fi systems.
Imagine this: a self-operating vacuum cleaner. Washing machines you can operate remotely, anywhere you are, with a touch of a button. Ovens that detect your food’s doneness. Amazing, right?
But out of all of these advancements, the core of the smart revolution is the refrigerator. Refrigerators, moving forward, will be equipped with webcams, managed remotely with smartphone apps, and use these same applications to get the recipes you need to make a particular dish.
