There are a lot of things that I have a sting dislike for in the modern day and there are a lot of things I like. I am going to use this article to have a brief run through of all of the things we dislike about 2016 and all of the things that we are truly grateful for in this wonderful year. I think it is about time we got all of the bad things out of the way first don’t you?
The bad things
For starters the worst thing about having to live in the modern era is the adverts which bombard us every second of every minute of every day of our lives. They are absolutely everywhere. You go to watch a bit of television…you only manage to get five minutes in because an advert about the latest skin cream appears. You begin your drive to work and switch on the radio, five seconds after the song finished there is another advert for something else you don’t want to buy. You turn the radio off, look up at the road ahead and the chances are quite high that you will be greeted by a giant billboard advertising something or other. My point is these annoyances to our daily lives are everywhere and there is no escaping them no matter where we turn.
The second annoying thing in the 21st century is the high levels of political correctness we have to deal with. Now I am well aware that everyone deserves to be treated with the same level of politeness and kindness that you would expect for yourself but somehow people have managed to take this too far and almost everything you say is offensive to someone. It could be something as innocent as you saying to your partner “I think I would quite fancy a Chinese tonight.” This simple phrase would be more than enough to set a whole wave of self-righteous people off who would not left you rest until you started calling it a “meal from the far east” or something equally as ludicrous.
The good things
To balance it all up I am going to take a look at and mention some of the good things in this world as well. The first one even slightly related to the last point in the list of the bad things and it is to do with the almost worldwide dismissal of gender roles. Back even as soon as 30 years ago women were still expected to be women and do all of the cooking and cleaning without saying a word about it. Nowadays everyone knows that the only thing women aren’t as good as men at is at possessing a penis. Woman are now in all of the roles men are in and although things aren’t perfect yet we are an awful lot closer than what we were all those years ago. In the modern day there are just as many men reading websites like http://www.sewingmachine.today/ as there are woman and I love it. If I want to wear my pink shirt with pride then why should I let my gender stop me?
The second good thing I love about living in 2016 is all of the technology we have. When I sit down and talk to my grandparents about what my latest gadget can do they sit there in awe and then precede to tell me a story about that all they had to use for a toy when they were little was a ball of string and a wooden hoop. It isn’t just technology for entertainment that has advanced to a ridiculous level too. We can perform keyhole surgery now, send a man to the moon and back and even delve to the bottom of the sea. The technology we have at our fingertips has improved our quality of life no end and I for one can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
